Planting joy: when a work task became self-care
Last weekend I was potting a few adorable succulents and a cyclamen into our Vlinder Art Pots™ so I could take some marketing photos. You would think that after seeing these art pots every day, I'd barely notice them in my own home anymore. But something surprising happened. Once the plants were nestled inside, and I spent hours photographing them outside and inside, solo, in pairs, and in trios — I felt genuinely happy.
The colors, the original designs, the way each one wraps 360 degrees around the ceramic planter pots all added so much joy to my home. I found myself falling in love with the designs again, especially with the plants and soil bringing them to life. And honestly? I imagined the plants were a little happier, too.
It turns out, this counts as self-care
I think this is something that could actually fall under the heading of self-care. Please bear with me on this. I sometimes get annoyed at someone suggesting I do self care ("I don't have time for that right now!"), don't want to spend the money on self-care ("a massage is expensive!"), or kind of get tired of hearing that phrase ("what does that even mean anymore?!).
But here's the thing: heading to the local hardware store, grabbing a few plants from the “under $6” section, and giving them a joyful, artful new home in one of our original planter pots? It worked. I felt lighter. For me it was a work task, sure, but it turned into something that brought me happiness. And for you, or for someone you want to give a unique and special gift to, it doesn't have to be a work task at all — you or your friend can go straight to the joy. The joy of giving a plant a new home and the "after joy" of seeing that beautiful art pot as part of your home decor.
And for you—or for someone you love—it doesn’t need to be part of a to-do list. You can skip straight to the joy. The joy of giving a plant a new home. The joy of seeing it every time you walk by. The joy of surrounding yourself with something meaningful and beautiful.
The magic of something small
When I was a kid, I loved getting “lots of little things” as gifts. I still do. And I think Vlinder Art Pots are one of those little gifts for yourself and someone else (why not both of you?) that makes a big impact. They’re both useful, thoughtful, and a little magic.
Our ceramic planter pots are printed with artwork you won’t find anywhere else and are designed entirely by a human, not AI. We are proud to be a woman-owned business creating small-batch collections of limited-edition art pots, with new designs dropping twice a year.
Whether you’re styling a corner in your home or giving a gift that’s personal and unexpected, an art pot can add a lot. And if you pick a trio from one of our themed collections, you’ll see how beautifully they speak to each other and to the space around them. Or go wild and mix and match from our collections!
